Kronan Original Portion

Kronan is a snus that Swedish Match originally launched back in 2005 as a response to taxes on snus going up. Kronan is also a truly divisive snus in the snus community. It seems to be a love/hate one, as lots of people don’t like it, but lots of people do. The divisive element is the element of dill in the flavor profile.  Yes, dill, like in pickles.

One thing you can say about Kronan is that nothing else tastes like it.

Opening up the can, it’s a truly unique smell. There is a mild tobacco aroma, a light citrus character, some floral hints, and yes, dill. The portions are nice and plump, moist, and have a pretty quick release of flavor. The taste, well….  It’s interesting. One thing you can say about Kronan is that nothing else tastes like it. I pick up the violet in the flavor profile, an herbal type of character, some light citrus, an earthy tobacco base, and then, yes…..dill.  The nicotine on this one seems to kick around the regular mark, and I’ve clocked the flavor between 45 and 54 minutes.

So, Kronan. I mean, it’s not great, but it’s not bad. I think it gets a lot of undo hate. It’s not the worst snus in the world by any means, but it’s not my “desert island snus”. It has it’s place for those who love it, but it’s not a place in my rotation.
